A BIT ABOUT ME.
Lindo Solomon – owner and director of Solomon Counselling, and I want to share a bit about myself and how Solomon Counselling came to be.
I have never been one to talk about my feelings. For most of my life, I lived by the “suck it up” tradition that most Australians do. The whole “I’ll be right” excuse you hear everyone say when they don’t want to talk. But after some very adverse life changing incidents, I realised I had to talk to someone. I hated the idea, but I knew it was necessary. What I wasn’t prepare for was it being the best thing I could have ever done for myself and most importantly, my mental health.
I came from a poor, single parent family, struggling to make ends meet on a daily basis, growing up in an environment where there isn’t a lot of hope for the future for an indigenous man going down the path I was basically speeding down. But after these life changing incidents, I decided to take control of my life.
After doing a lot of therapy, seeing and feeling the positive changes it made on my life and my mental health, I knew that this was something I wanted to share with my friends, family, my tribe, and the world. So ive dived head first into the world of therapy and trying to create a legacy, but more so a safe place for people to turn to when in need. Whats the difference between what I do and other counsellors and therapists? I try to remove the formalities, the technical phrases, the office restriction, and talk to you as an equal. I want to provide a place where you can feel completely comfortable and unguarded to reach out for a yarn, and my promise is that myself and my family here at Solomon Counselling will be in the trenches with you for as long as it takes to get you out of them.
